India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has launched the second-generation Ertiga in India. Prices for the new Maruti Ertiga start at Rs 7.44 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi) which is Rs 2.55 lakhs less than its nearest rival, the Mahindra Marazzo. Maruti is offering the all-new Ertiga, which will be sold through its regular showrooms (rebranded Arena) in ten different variants – six petrol and four diesel.
Variant-wise ex-showroom Delhi prices are as follows:
Petrol LXI, VXI, ZXI, ZXI+L 7.44 lakhs, 8.16 lakhs, 8.99 lakhs and 9.50 lakhs.
Petrol automatic VXI AT , ZXI ATL: 9.18 lakhs, 9.95 lakhs
Diesel LDI, VDI, ZDI, ZDI: 8.84 lakhs, 9.56 lakhs, 10.39 lakhs and 10.90 lakhs
The new Maruti Ertiga is offered with two engine options – a 1.3-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol (something not offered with the Mahindra Marazzo) – both of which are paired with Maruti’s SHVS mild-hybrid setup. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is the same one that debuted on the facelifted Ciaz and produces 104 Bhp and 138 Nm of torque. The new Ertiga’s petrol engine comes paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The petrol-manual Ertiga returns a 19.34 mileage of Kmpl while the petrol-automatic variant offers 18.69 Kmpl.
The diesel engine, on the other hand, has been carried over from the first-gen Ertiga and is the tried and tested 1.3-litre turbocharged unit sourced from Fiat. The 1.3-litre diesel engine produces 89 Bhp and 200 Nm of torque and is paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel Ertiga returns a mileage of 25.47 Kmpl. Overall, mileage has increased by about 10 % when compared to the outgoing model.
The second-generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is based on the carmaker’s Heartect platform that also underpins the new Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan. The new platform makes the second generation Ertiga lighter than its predecessor but also gives it a much more rigid and stronger body. The new Ertiga is 4395 mm long, 1735 mm wide, and 1,690 mm tall. The new Ertiga is 99 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and 5 mm taller than its predecessor. The wheelbase remains unchanged on the new-gen MPV at 2,740 mm, though the ground clearance has been dropped by 5 mm to 180 mm.
The second-gen Eritga brings with it a host of design changes as well compared to its predecessor. The front end has been given a major overhaul and looks much sharper now with the angular projector headlamps flanking a larger chromed-out grille. The front bumper is also brand new and features black cladding near the housings for the fog lamps and has been given a major overhaul as well. The bonnet too is new and gels well with the front end.
From the sides, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga looks more sculpted thanks to character lines that flow gently upwards. The Ertiga features a floating roof design and electronically operated ORVMs with integrated turn indicators.
The rear end of the Ertiga has undergone a major design overhaul as well and features a brand new tailgate design with sculpted LED taillamps, that look similar to the ones found on the rear ends of Volvos. The rear bumper is brand new as well.
Inside, the changes are numerous too and start off with the two-tone interior theme. The new flat-bottomed steering wheel is wrapped in leather in the top-spec variants which also get a large touchscreen infotainment display with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The dashboard and doors feature faux wood inserts that give the Ertiga a more upmarket feel. The new Ertiga comes packed with features including a height adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, 12V charging ports for each row of seats, automatic climate control, reversing camera with parking sensors, keyless entry, and multiple storage spaces. In terms of safety, the Ertiga gets dual airbags with ABS and EBD as standard for all variants. The Ertiga also gets ISOFIX child seat mounts with the automatic variants also sporting Hill Hold and ESP functions as well.
Maruti dealerships across the country have been accepting bookings for the second generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga for some time now and you can book yours for just Rs 11,000. The all-new Maruti Ertiga will rival the likes of the newly launched Mahindra Marazzo and the Renault Lodgy in the Indian MPV market.
