Maruti Suzuki’s latest unveil at the ongoing Auto Expo 2020 is the facelifted Ignis.. A high-riding hatchback aimed mainly at city car buyers, the Ignis Facelift gets revised styling at the front end, with a toothy grille and bumper inserts.
The A-Pillar gets blacked out while the alloy wheel design is new. At the rear, new bumper inserts round off the design. The hatchback will continue to be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA chain of dealerships, and is the least priced offering from those showrooms. Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha are the variants that the Ignis Facelift is offered in. The facelifted car is available in two new colours: : Lucent Orange and Turquoise Blue. The official launch will happen soon and pre-bookings begin today across all NEXA showrooms.
Mechanically, there is no change. The car is powered by a 1.2 liter-4 cylinder K-Series petrol engine with 82 Bhp of peak power and 113 Nm of peak torque. A five speed manual gearbox is standard while a 5 speed automated manual transmission (AMT) is offered as an option.
The car competes with the Tata Tiago, Hyundai Grand i10 and the Ford Figo in terms of pricing. Key features on offer include a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, LED projector headlamps, daytime running LEDs, twin airbags, ABS, reverse parking sensors, reverse parking camera, seat belt reminders and speed alerts.
Speaking at the unveil of the new Ignis, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said,
IGNIS enjoys a special place in the Maruti Suzuki NEXA portfolio and has been appreciated for its peppy drivability and spacious interiors. We have recognised an increasing preference for feature loaded cars that have SUV-like high seating position and dominant road presence. We are confident that the all new IGNIS with its SUV design and spacious interiors will appeal to the customers.
Maruti Suzuki offers a range of personalization options for the Ignis. In fact, the Ignis was the first car that Maruti offered through the NEXA chain with so many personalization options. From different roof wraps to many other funky accessories, the Ignis is meant to be heavily customized. The hatchback is aimed at younger car buyers who want something youthful and exuberant. While there have been many modified examples of the Ignis through the aftermarket route, taking that option could void the factory warranty. So, everyone who’s interested in customizing the Ignis are urged to make use of the extensive range of official accessories that Maruti Suzuki offers through NEXA dealers.
