Looks:
The Ignis is a very unique looking vehicle and very different from what we are used to seeing from Maruti. This one has a lot of cool design elements and some that have been borrowed from legendary Suzuki cars, like the Fronte Coupe, the Cervo, the Swift and the Vitara from the olden days. The top of the line gets LED DRLs and projector headlamps, along with the option of dual tone colours, like you see on the Brezza as well.
Features:
The car comes well loaded. Maruti has done a good job on the safety front by offering dual airbags and ABS as standard across all variants of the Ignis. In the technology front, the Ignis will get a touch screen infotainment system with Apple Car play and Android Auto, a first for the segment and the first for a Maruti car too. While that is on the top of the line variant, the lower two variants will get a 2-DIN unit with bluetooth and steering mounted audio controls, which is a good thing.
The top of the line will feature climate control, rear camera and will also get alloy wheels. The top two trim levels will get the option of push button start, rear wiper and defogger as well as electrically folding mirrors.
Powertrain:
Here is where Maruti has pulled a masterstroke. Not only do they have petrol and diesel variants on offer, they also have both automatic and manual for them. The petrol engine is the 1.2 liter K Series unit from the Swift which produces 82 Bhp and 113 Nm where as the diesel is the well known 1.3 liter unit which produces 74 Bhp and 190 Nm. Both engines come mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5 speed AMT gearbox. ARAI figures for the petrol are 20.89 km/l and that for the diesel are 26.80 km/l.
Only the two middle level trims will get the option of the AMT where as the base version will not be on offer in diesel.
Competition:
The main competition for the Ignis is the KUV 100, being the only other crossover styled hatchback on offer.
