When Maruti launched their first hybrid in the form of Ciaz diesel hybrid last year, the indigenous company announced that the hybrid technology is not limited to diesel engines. Now reports say that Maruti is working on working on to update the highly successful premium hatchback Baleno.
As we know, Baleno is already getting ready to be launched with turbo petrol 1-litre engine in RS variant. Apart from this, Maruti is also said to be working on the petrol Baleno to integrate the SHVS technology in it. The new Baleno will be powered by the current 1.2-litre petrol engine but the engine will be tweaked to have dual injectors in the base. The new tweaked K-series engine will be known as Dualjet and the technology will increase the performance and fuel efficiency as well.
The new engine, however, will need fuel with higher octane and that is why Maruti is testing the car extensively to know how it will perform with the widely available low octane fuel in India. The engine will also get the SHVS technology and will become the first petrol engine in India to feature this system.
Some features of the car like park distance control and two extra airbags may not make it India but the car will get rear disc brakes with the top-end variants. With the new engine and SHVS technology, Maruti may be gearing up for the BS-VI pollution norms that will be enforced in India by the year 2020.
