Maruti Suzuki announced that the new Ignis would be launched in India on 13th January. The Ignis is one of the most awaited cars from Maruti and showcased at the Auto Expo 2016. Due to production constraints, the launch of the car was delayed. Now that the car is close to the launch, Maruti has opened the bookings for the Ignis.
The new Ignis will be available in four variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The car will be sold through the premium Nexa dealership network of Maruti, and the dealerships have started taking the bookings across India. The car can also be booked online through the Nexa’s official website. The booking amount is set at Rs. 11,000.
The Ignis will become the third vehicle to be sold through the Nexa dealership network of the company. The car is based on the fifth-generation platform’s new version, which also forms the base of the new Baleno. The next-generation will also get the same platform.
The Ignis will be powered by 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine that also powers many other Maruti models in India. The power figures are not out officially, but according to the leaked brochure, the 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine will churn out a maximum of 81 BHP at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The 1.3-litre, a 4-cylinder diesel engine will produce a maximum of 74 BHP at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.
Ignis is also very light weight; the petrol version weighs from 940-960 kg depending on the variant while the diesel one weighs 940-960 kg. The fuel efficiency is marked at 20.89 km/l for the petrol and 26.80 km/l for the diesel. Both the petrol and diesel engine come with a choice of 5-speed manual transmission or 5-speed AMT.
The Ignis will take on the likes of KUV100 in the market and will replace the Ritz. The car will be priced between Rs. 5-7 lakh, ex-showroom.
