The craze for SUVs is growing in India and around the world. In India, compact SUV segment is very popular and is one of the most competitive segment in the market. Most of the manufacturers have at least one product in this segment. Maruti Suzuki which is India’s largest car manufacturer also has offering in this segment. Maruti offers S-Cross via Nexa dealership as a premium compact SUV. Here we have a video where vlogger takes S-Cross off-road to test its capabilities. How did the S-Cross perform? let’s find out from the video.

The video has been uploaded by Harshys Automotive on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger talks about what he has planned for the S-Cross. It should be noted that Maruti S-Cross is not a proper SUV. It is a front wheel driver SUV with ample amount of ground clearance and muscular looks.

Vlogger took S-Cross to a hilly slope where he brought the Ignis before. There is no proper road in this section and there are deep ruts, gravels and there is a rocky slope as well. Vlogger takes the car through 4 different sections to see if Maruti S-Cross is actually a capable of handling mild off-road sections. The first section included a deep channel through which the water flows from the hills during rainy season. The challenge was to cross this adequately deep channel without hitting the bottom.

Maruti S-Cross has 180 mm of clearance which is ample of most Indian roads but, while doing off-road more ground clearance is always better. The driver approaches the channel in angle so that the bumper of the S-Cross does not hot the ground. The front wheel on the S-Cross was spinning at places as it was a loose mud and rocky surface. S-Cross cleared the section successfully.

It did not hit scrape the bottom at any point. After that, there was a uphill section with loose gravel and ruts on it. The test is actually being done on a hill. In this section, S-Cross managed to climb without loosing the traction even once. The driver was not accelerating hard and was moving at crawling speed which made things easier for the car. After the second obstacle, they reached a spot where there was small mud section where the S-Cross is supposed to climb.

In the first attempt, the tyres lost traction and was unable to climb up. In the second run, driver carried some momentum while hitting the climb and that helped it climb up without any major issues. At no point S-Cross hit the bottom at any place which is quite commendable. Maruti S-Cross performed pretty well in the video but, should do it? we would not recommend doing such stunts with your front wheel drive vehicle that too without any backup.

Maruti S-Cross is a premium offering from Maruti and it has been in the market for some time. In international market, the updater S-Cross has been released and it comes with AWD feature. In India, S-Cross is powered by a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine only. The petrol engine generates 105 Ps and 138 Nm of peak torque. The engine is currently offered with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
