Maruti Suzuki is the largest automobile maker in our country. However, now the competition in the Indian market is getting stiffer so even Maruti Suzuki needs to up their game. Due to this, they are working on a slew of new products for the Indian market. Most of them will be SUVs because they are selling like hotcakes in every market. Today we list down the upcoming SUVs that Maruti Suzuki is working on.
All-new generation Vitara Brezza
Maruti Suzuki is preparing an all-new generation of the Vitara Brezza. This is because Brezza’s design has now started looking dated when compared to all the other compact SUVs in the segment. Despite the update last year, the overall design stayed the same and there were no upgrades to the interior. The SUV has been codenamed YXA and the domestic parts vendors are already in place. The SUV is expected to get launched sometime in 2022. It would come with the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a diesel engine is also expected this time. The prices of the new generation Vitara Brezza will go up once the new generation is launched. The current Vitara Brezza’s prices have already gone up significantly because of this many of its competitors undercut the Vitara Brezza’s price by a good margin.

Baleno based compact SUV
The manufacturer is also working on a new compact SUV which will be based on the Baleno. It will share the same platform and the same engine. Some of the interior bits will also be shared between both vehicles. All of this would help in reducing the production cost and help in pricing the new compact SUV competitively. The Baleno based compact SUV will be positioned below the Vitara Brezza. It will be competing against some of the affordable compact SUVs such as Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and lower variants of Hyundai Venue. It has been codenamed YTB and is expected to get unveiled sometime early next year.
S-Cross replacement
The S-Cross never really sold in very good numbers since its launch. Maruti Suzuki did give it a facelift and even a new petrol engine but still, the sales are not picking up. So, the manufacturer would soon be replacing the S-Cross with a new mid-size SUV. Toyota will also help in developing the new S-Cross replacement. It would be based on Toyota’s DNGA platform. It is also expected to get a hybrid powertrain. Toyota would also be rebadging the SUV and selling it as their version. It has been codenamed YFG and is expected to go on sale in late 2022 or early 2023.
Jimny 5-seater
Maruti Suzuki showcased the Jimny at the Auto Expo 2020 and it received a very good response. Unfortunately, the manufacturer said that they would not be bringing the Jimny to India because the three-door vehicle has a very niche market. But now they have seen that the Thar has been an incredible success in our market so they are considering bringing the Jimny to the Indian market. However, they will be bringing a 5-door version of the Thar to our country. It has been codenamed YWD and is expected to get launched around June 2022.
