Maruti Suzuki A-Star Automatic launched

Maruti Suzuki has launched an automatic transmission variant of their A-Star small car at price of Rs. 4.37 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The A Star AT is available only in the Vxi variant and misses out on safety features like airbags etc. The car however is the most affordable automatic car in the country and that in itself is something to brag about.

The A-Star AT will appeal to buyers looking for a small and easy to drive small car. It will likely be popular amidst the old, women and those who wish to drive without putting in too much effort. The A-Star’s closest rival is the i10 automatic which is dearer by almost Rs. 1 lakh.

Look, space and comfort

In terms of the A-Star is a cute looking small car. Its large round headlamps add further to its cute car appeal. The design however is new and might not be appreciated by all. It is a bit short on space once you get inside and boot is of little use.

Performance, mileage

The AT variant sports the same engine as the regular A-star, a 998 cc, 3 cylinder petrol motor that belts out 66 bhp of power at 6200 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm. The A-Star Automatic has a 4-speed auto transmission on the 1litre K-series engine that according to Maruti Suzuki is tuned to return efficiency levels of 17 kmpl which makes it the most fuel efficient car in its segment. The A-Star Automatic would only be available in the top end Vxi variant, so just one trim level to choose from. While the A-Star is priced at Rs. 4.37 lakhs making it cheaper than its direct rival the Hyundai i10 Automatic.

Price and features

The A-Star AT costs Rs. 4.37 lakh in Delhi, Rs. 4.57 lakh in Mumbai, Rs. 4.44 lakh in Bangalore, Rs. 4.33 lakh in Chennai and Rs. 4.41 lakh in Chandigarh. It has an integrated 4-speed automatic gear shifter, music system, all 4 power windows, central locking, ABS and drivers side seat height adjust features as standard fitment.
