Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 CNG launched at Rs. 5.95 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has just launched a CNG variant of the recently introduced Alto K10 budget hatchback. With this, Maruti Suzuki has 13 CNG powered cars in its line-up, making it India’s largest manufacturer of CNG powered cars. The Alto K10 CNG is priced at Rs. 5.95 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, and is offered in the VXi trim. A 5 speed manual gearbox comes standard with the car, which continues to use the 1.0 liter K10C, 3 cylinder petrol engine. This engine gets twin injectors on every cylinder (DualJet) and also variable valve timing (Dual VVT) for both intake and exhaust valves.

The naturally aspirated petrol engine, now tuned to run on CNG, makes 56 Bhp-82 Nm while running on CNG. On petrol, the same engine produces 65 Bhp0-89 Nm. The CNG powered version of the Alto K10 comes with a factory fitted CNG kit, making it more reliable, durable, safe and fuss-free compared to cars fitted with aftermarket CNG kits. A stock factory warranty is applicable on the Alto K10 CNG. Fuel efficiency is rated at 33.85 Kms/KG on CNG, making the Alto K10 one of the most fuel efficient CNG powered car in India.

On the Alto K10, the CNG tank sits in the boot of the car, and this limits luggage capacity greatly. Owners who want to carry a lot of luggage may fit a rooftop carrier. Notably, the suspension of the Alto K10 CNG has been strengthened to handle the extra weight while various other engine parts of the car have been suitably modified for smooth and reliable running on CNG. The car also offers a dashboard mounted switch that allows the driver to seamless switch between petrol and CNG fuels.

Meanwhile, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, had this to say about the Alto K10 CNG,

The Alto brand has been a symbol of how Maruti Suzuki has evolved in response to customers’ shifting desires. The Alto continued to be the best-selling vehicle in the country for 16 consecutive years, and we are convinced that the launch of the S-CNG model will further strengthen its appeal, thanks to its stellar fuel-efficiency. I am delighted to share that we have sold more than 1 million S-CNG vehicles so far, which has helped save over 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. The addition of S-CNG to the popular Alto K10 will allow further widespread adoption of our environment-friendly technology. Our S-CNG range is specially designed, developed, and manufactured at our facilities to suit Indian driving conditions.

In the coming months, Maruti Suzuki will launch yet another CNG powered car in the form of the Grand Vitara CNG. The Grand Vitara SUV is Maruti Suzuki’s current flagship offering, and is sold with a petrol mild hybrid and petrol strong hybrid powertrains. The CNG option will be offered with the petrol mild hybrid engine. Both manual and automatic variants of the Grand Vitara Mild Hybrid will get the CNG option.
