Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, is known for producing some of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the market. Maruti Suzuki has big plans for India this year. At a time when manufacturers are planning to shift their focus to electric cars, Maruti is planning to introduce strong hybrid technology in more models in their lineup. According to reports, Maruti is expected to launch four new hybrid cars in the future.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
Suzuki has already launched the next generation Swift in Japan, and the same is expected to hit Indian shores later this year. When compared to the international version, Maruti will make some changes both in terms of features and engine. For example, we are unlikely to get CVT, and the AWD system is a big no. What we can expect from the next-gen Swift is a strong hybrid system. Other than the regular petrol version, Maruti Swift would be offered with a new 1.2-liter, naturally aspirated, three-cylinder petrol engine, which will be mated to a strong hybrid system from Toyota. This strong hybrid system is expected to make the car a lot more efficient, and the small hatchback is expected to return around 35 kmpl.
We have seen images of the next-generation Dzire testing on Indian roads recently on the internet. Just like the Swift, the sedan version is also expected to get an updated exterior and interior. Dzire is a popular sedan in its segment, and the upcoming version is expected to offer more space for occupants on the inside. The engine on the Dzire is expected to be the same as the Swift. It would get the same 3-cylinder petrol engine, which is tuned for city performance and efficiency. It would also get the strong hybrid system with the 1.2-liter petrol engine. The next-gen Dzire is expected to be launched soon after the hatchback’s launch.
Grand Vitara 7-seater
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are currently working on a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara and Hyryder for the Indian market. The 7-seater version is expected to get minor cosmetic changes when compared to the current version. With an additional third row seat in the vehicle, it needs to be seen whether the manufacturer would increase the wheelbase or simply increase the length of the overhangs and eat up on the boot space that Grand Vitara offers. It would be offered with the same 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine with a strong hybrid system for better efficiency. The SUV is expected to be launched sometime in 2025.
Fronx was introduced in the Indian market about 10 months ago, and it became an instant hit in the market. This so-called SUV became so popular that Maruti sold over 1 lakh units in just 10 months after the launch. The Fronx Hybrid variant is expected to be launched in the market sometime in 2025. However, this system, which is likely to be offered with the Fronx, is different from regular hybrid vehicles. It uses a series hybrid powertrain in which the sole purpose of the engine is to generate power to recharge the batteries. This system is also called an extender hybrid system as the 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine never sends power directly to the wheels. It is also possible that we would see the same technology in upcoming Swift and other future models.
