Maruti Suzuki cars get price hikes of up to Rs.17,000!

Maruti Suzuki has announced a price hike of 1.75% post the 2012 Union budget. The price hike ranges between Rs. 3,700 to Rs. 17,000 depending on the model, variants and will be effective immediately.

The excise duty for small cars has been hiked from 10% to 12%. Maruti Suzuki models such as the Alto, Alto K10, Estilo, Wagon R, Eeco, Omni, Ritz and the Swift fall under this category. The new Swift Dzire, which measures less than four meters, also falls under the small car excise duty slab of 12%.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto prices have been hiked in the range of Rs. 4,200 – Rs. 5,900. The prices of Alto K10 have been hiked in the range of Rs. 5,500 – Rs. 5,700. The Wagon R prices have been hiked in the range of Rs. 6,000 – Rs. 7,600 while the Estilo prices have been hiked in the range of Rs. 3,700 – Rs. 10,000. The hot selling premium hatchback, Maruti Suzuki Swift has been given a price hike of Rs. 7,700 – Rs. 11,900 while the Ritz small car gets a price hike of Rs. 3,700 – Rs. 10,000. The new Swift Dzire sedan’s prices have seen a hike the range of Rs. 8,500 – Rs. 12,700. The two multi-utility vehicles, Omni and the Eeco get a price hike ranging between Rs. 3,700 – Rs. 10,000. The excise duty for large cars with engine capacity less than 1.5-litres has been hiked from 22% to 24%. Hence the SX4 sedan gets a price hike of Rs. 9,400 – Rs. 17,000.

In the 2012 Union budget, the import duty on completely built units (CBU) cars has been hiked from 60% to 75%. However, the company is yet to announce the price hike of its CBU models such as the Kizashi and the Grand Vitara.
