Maruti Suzuki has updated the price of the CNG version of the Celerio hatchback on its official website. The CNG variant of the Celerio is available in a single, VXi variant, with a 5 speed manual gearbox.

At this price, the Celerio Green costs about 63,000 rupees more than the VXi petrol variant of the car. The CNG kit on the Celerio features Intelligent-Gas Port Injection (iGPI) technology, that injects CNG directly in the engine’s combustion chamber.

The Celerio Green comes with a rated fuel efficiency of 31.79 Kms/Kg of CNG, which translates into a running cost of about 1.20 rupees/kilometer (CNG is priced at 38.15 rupees per kilogram in Delhi). The Celerio running on CNG produces a lower power and torque output than on petrol (58 Bhp-77 Nm).

The CNG powered Celerio comes with dual fuel functionality, in that the car can run either on CNG or petrol. The driver can switch between the two fuels by means of a dashboard switch. The car retains the 1 liter-3 cylinder K-Series petrol engine (67 Bhp-90 Nm), which is now modified to run on CNG.

The CNG powered Celerio Green is also heavier than the petrol powered variant by about 90 kilograms. The higher weight of the car has led to Maruti Suzuki modifying the rear suspension of the Celerio to cope with the weight increase. The CNG tank of the Celerio is placed at the boot of the hatchback.

Maruti Suzuki hasn’t offered the automated manual transmission (AMT) option on the CNG powered Celerio. The car will go on sale shortly now that the prices are out. Maruti Suzuki dealers in specific cities of India, where CNG powered cars are sold, are also expected to commence bookings of the Celerio Green.
