The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz production at Manesar has already kicked off with dealer dispatches to begin shortly. The car is primed for a launch later this month, as Maruti Suzuki SX4 sedan replacement, and the latest entrant to the hotly competitive C-Segment sedan space in India. The Ciaz promises to be segment leader in terms of its dimensions and the sheer space offered on its innards. The car’s production version has been spotted in China, where it will sell as the Alivio. In India, the Alivio will sell as the Ciaz, and will be offered with petrol and turbo diesel engines.
The petrol powered engine on the Ciaz will be a 1.4 liter K-Series (94 Bhp-130 Nm) unit borrowed from the Ertiga while the diesel powered engine will be the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet (90 Bhp-200 Nm), also borrowed from the Ertiga. Five speed manual gearboxes will be standard on both engines with the petrol engine likely to see an automatic gearbox offered in future. Gossip on the grapevine also suggests that the Ciaz might get the 1.6 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine in future. For now though, the two engines mentioned above will do duty. Maruti Suzuki isn’t likely to employ an automated manual transmission on the Ciaz, in order to prevent dilution of the car’s premium appeal.
The Ciaz will be one of the most premium cars that Maruti Suzuki has launched in the segment under 10 lakh rupees. Features such as rear AC vents, a push button start, keyless entry, 16 inch wheels, automatic climate control, reverse parking sensors, high quality interiors and advanced infotainment options will be offered on the top end variants of the car.
