Maruti Suzuki Ciaz OUTSELLS Honda City and Hyundai Verna

Maruti Suzuki’s mid-size sedan, the Ciaz is back to reclaim the top position on the sales in the segment. Maruti Suzuki announced that as many as 3,592 units of the Ciaz were sold in the month of May, which is higher than the Hyundai Verna and the Honda City. In the month of April, Hyundai Verna became the top-selling car in the segment.

In the month of May, Hyundai sold 2,567 units of the Verna while Honda sold 10 units less than the Verna at 2,557 units. The major sales drop happened to the Toyota Yaris in the month of May. Toyota sold a total of 373 units of the Yaris in the market in the same period.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has remained one of the top-selling cars in the segment in recent times. Apart from the Verna, City and Yaris, the Ciaz also competes with the likes of Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Nissan Sunny, and Fiat Linea in the segment. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is available with both petrol and diesel engine options and is the only car in the segment to offer a mild-hybrid system with both petrol and diesel engine options.

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was recently launched with the all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is a much-awaited engine from the brand. With the all-new engine option, the Ciaz is now available with three engine options in the market. There are two diesel engine options and a single petrol engine options. It should be noted that Maruti Suzuki has formally announced that they will not sell any diesel car in the Indian market after the stricter BS6 emission compliance norms are implemented in the Indian market next year.

The all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz produces a maximum power of 94 Bhp at 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 225 Nm between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. The engine gets a high-efficiency turbocharger that ensures a better low-end torque in the car. The all-new diesel engine returns a maximum fuel efficiency of 26.82 km/l, which is quite a lot. It gets a 6-speed manual transmission but there’s no SHVS mild-hybrid system available with this engine option.

The other diesel engine available with the Ciaz is a 1.3-litre Multijet sourced from Fiat. This engine produces a maximum of 88 Bhp – 200 Nm and it gets a mild-hybrid SHVS technology the increases the fuel efficiency by quite a lot. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed transmission and returns a maximum fuel efficiency of a massive 28.09 km/l.

The petrol engine option available with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the all-new 1.5-litre engine that produces a maximum power of 104 PS and peak torque of 138 Nm. It also gets SHVS mild hybrid system and returns a maximum of 21.56 km/l.
