Maruti Suzuki sells a Dzire compact sedan every 2 minutes in India

19 lakh Maruti Dzires sold in 10 years: One Dzire sold every 2 minutes

Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which topped the sales chart in India for a few months after the all-new model was launched in the Indian market has become the fastest selling sedan in India. The sedan was introduced to the Indian market after the tax benefits were announced for the sub-4m vehicles in India and it has remained the best-seller in the segment since its launch in 2009.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has completed a decade of its existence in the Indian market. Over the years, Maruti Suzuki has sold over 19 lakh units of the Dzire in the Indian market, which makes it the best-selling sedan in India ever. As per the Maruti Suzuki data, one Dzire is sold every two minutes since its launch.

Mr Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said:

The brand Dzire has been a major contributor to Maruti Suzuki’s journey and we express our gratitude to customers. With the launch of Dzire, we created a new ‘compact sedan’ segment. This segment is continuously evolving and growing. Over the years, Maruti Suzuki Dzire has led this growth and it continues to be relevant and attractive to customers. A testimony to its strong customer connect is that the sales of third-generation Dzire went up by nearly 20%. We keep an ear to the ground to sense customers’ demands and translate them into features in our cars. The hugely popular Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology is available across six variants of the Dzire. Nearly 13% of buyers have chosen the automatic variant. Interestingly, for half of the new Dzire customers, the compact sedan is their first car purchase. This shows a paradigm shift of the Indian customers who are ready to start their car ownership with a sedan,”

Last year, Maruti Suzuki sold as many as 2.5 lakh units of the sedan, which comes out to be around 21,000 units on an average per month. Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is in its third-generation and it takes on the likes of Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor, Ford Aspire and Volkswagen Ameo in the Indian market. The all-new Maruti Suzuki Dzire is available with both petrol and diesel engine options and both the engines are offered with the AMT automatic transmission.

The petrol variants of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire are powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 83 Bhp and peak torque of 113 Nm. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission and 5-speed AMT automatic transmission. The vehicle returns a maximum of 22 km/l, which is the segment-best. The diesel variants of the car get powered by the 1.3-litre engine that generates a maximum of 74 Bhp and peak torque of 190 Nm. It also gets both manual and automatic transmission option and returns a maximum of 28.4 km/l, which is the highest fuel efficiency in the segment.
