Maruti Suzuki has disclosed that the MPV would be named Eco in India. All Maruti Suzuki vehicles in India have a proper name in India, and the name APV would not really work.
Breaking: The Eco is really the Suzuki EECO!
The company has not confirmed if the Eco which would come to India is really the Suzuki APV, though. We think it is. Maruti Suzuki is not likely to go through designing a completely new people-carrier for India from scratch. Anyway, we will see the Eco displayed at the upcoming Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi in January.
The company has not revealed any more details such as technical specifications or price at this point. Does the name Eco have any significance, though? The APV as it exists abroad is a petrol vehicle and in India, it is likely the Fiat Multijet diesel engine would power it here. Prices are expected to be close to Rs 5 lakh on-road.
