Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV Facelift Surfaces in India

Competition in the MPV segment is hotting up. While the recently launched Honda Mobilio is clocking decent sales, the Renault Lodgy is lined up for a launch next year. Amidst all this, one of the best selling MPVs in India, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, is all set to go under the knife for a minor refresh.

Launched in 2012, the Ertiga MPV has been a hot seller right from the word go, even displacing the top selling Toyota Innova from its perch frequently. Currently, the Ertiga and Innova regularly spar for the top spot in the MPV category of the Indian car market.

The facelifted version of the Ertiga has started testing in India. The facelifted MPV is likely to be launched in 2015, to coincide with the third anniversary of its launch in the Indian market. The Ertiga sold currently comes with petrol, diesel and CNG engine options. A five speed manual gearbox is standard across all the variants.

The same engine set ups are likely to be retained on the facelifted version, with the addition of a 4 speed automatic gearbox. The Ertiga sold in Indonesia uses a 4 speed automatic gearbox and a similar option is likely to be added to the India-spec model.

An automatic option for the Ertiga will prove to be a major differentiator considering the fact that none of the MPVs sold in India are sold with an automatic gearbox. In terms of visual changes, a grille and bumper job up front, decals on the flanks and a mild tweak to the rear are the various tweaks that the Ertiga Facelift is likely to receive.

On the inside, an updated infotainment system and more features could be added. The Ertiga uses a tweaked Swift platform and shares many parts with the Dzire compact sedan. This parts sharing has allowed Maruti Suzuki to price the MPV competitively.
