Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV coming soon: Teaser out

The Tata Nexon EV recently received a new rival in the Indian car market in the form of the Mahindra XUV400, and it’s set to get yet another rival – the Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV. Yes, you read that right – Maruti Suzuki has hinted that the Fronx EV is in the works for the near future.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV coming soon: Teaser out

In one of its internal meets, Maruti Suzuki has previewed silhouettes of six all-new electric vehicles, which are scheduled to hit the market by 2030. Among the six vehicles, one looks like that of the recently-unveiled Fronx compact crossover SUV, which indicates that an all-electric version of the Fronx might soon hit the Indian market within the next few years.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV coming soon: Teaser out

For the time being, the details of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV are very scarce and almost negligible. However, going by the silhouette previewed by Maruti Suzuki, it seems that the design of the new Fronx EV will replicate that of the petrol-powered version, which will soon hit the showroom floors in the coming weeks. Maruti Suzuki might introduce a few EV-specific highlights like contrast inserts for the Fronx EV to differentiate it from its ICE counterpart, much like how Tata Motors has done with the blue highlights in the Nexon EV.

Even the cabin of the new Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV will replicate that of the ICE version, though with some minor changes like a different instrument console and choice of upholstery. The petrol-powered version of the Fronx, which was showcased at the Auto Expo, has dual-tone black and purple-themed upholstery. However, when it comes to equipment levels, the Fronx EV might get the same features as the petrol-powered Fronx, which include a head-up display, wireless charger, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 360-degree parking camera.

For the time being, there are no details about the battery and motor which might be introduced in the new Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV. However, we expect that the overall maximum driving range and performance levels should be good enough to make it competitive against its to-be direct rivals like Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.

While Maruti Suzuki has hinted that the Fronx EV is in the works, it is not expected to hit the showroom floors before 2025. The carmaker will first launch the production-spec version of the eVX concept, which was its star highlight at the Auto Expo 2023. It will be positioned against the currently-available EVs like Hyundai Kona EV and MG ZS EV.
