Maruti Suzuki Fronx launched at Rs 7.46 lakh

After a three-month-long wait, Maruti Suzuki has finally announced the prices of the all-new Fronx sub-compact SUV. The Fronx has been launched in India with a starting price of Rs 7,46,500 lakh, going up to Rs 13.14 lakh for the top-spec variant. The SUV is available with two engine options, a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Here are the variant-wise prices for the new Fronx:

The new Fronx is a crossover version of the Baleno premium hatchback, inspired by the design of the Grand Vitara. It features a completely reworked exterior, with split all-LED headlamps, a new bolder grille, revised slimmer LED tail lamps with an LED connecting bar, body cladding all around, front and rear skid plates, and new 16-inch machined alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin layout is similar to the Baleno, but with different black and brown upholstery. It comes with features like a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display, auto AC, a flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a wireless charging pad. Safety features include a 360-degree parking camera and six airbags.

Mr. C V Raman, Chief Technical Officer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, commented on the conceptualization of the new sporty compact SUV, by saying,

“The FRONX is an amalgamation of two words – Frontier Next – which outlines a vehicle that is trendy, modern, has the latest features and a catchy name. Based on NEXA’s design philosophy, ‘Crafted Futurism’, the FRONX has been conceptualized and designed with a unique aerodynamic silhouette for new-age buyers who are looking for a stylish and unconventional vehicle with dynamic road presence. FRONX also offers a 1.0L Turbo Boosterjet engine which provides an exhilarating acceleration of 0-60 km/h in 5.3 seconds.”

Petrol-only engine options

The lower and mid-spec variants of the Fronx come with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine shared with the Baleno, producing 90 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of maximum torque. It is offered with the options of a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT transmission. The top-spec variants come with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is the same Boosterjet powertrain that powered the now-defunct Baleno RS. This engine has been upgraded to comply with BS6 stage-II emission norms and produces 100 PS of power and 147 Nm of torque. It is offered with 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.

The new Fronx is available in seven colours – Arctic White, Opulent Red, Earthen Brown, Splendid Silver, Celestial Blue, Bluish Black, and Grandeur Grey. The top-spec Alpha variant is also offered with three dual-tone colour options based on Earthen Brown, Opulent Red, and Splendid Silver.
