The country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has finally launched its most ambitious model, the Fronx crossover SUV, after months of anticipation. The model has been launched with a starting price of Rs 7,46,500 and will go all the way up to Rs 13,14,000 for the top-spec variant. If you are still unaware of the details of this all-new model, then you have come to the right place. Here is all the information about this new crossover SUV that you should know, along with images.
On the exterior, the new Fronx draws its inspiration from its sibling, the Grand Vitara mid-size SUV, which also happens to be the flagship model from Maruti Suzuki. The Fronx gets a similar split-LED headlamp design which consists of LED DRLs positioned at the top and all-LED headlamps in the lower portion of the bumper. The car also gets a sizeable front grille with a thick chrome bar running across its center. Additionally, the car also gets a large silver skid plate at the bottom.
Although the Fronx draws design inspiration from the Grand Vitara, it is based on the brand’s premium hatchback Baleno’s Heartect platform. This all-new crossover measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, and 1,550 mm in height, and its wheelbase is 2,520 mm.
Moving on to the side profile, the Fronx boasts a taller appearance and gets a tapered roofline, making it look a lot more aggressive than both the Baleno and Grand Vitara. It also gets thick black claddings on the sides that add to the ruggedness of the car. The Fronx also gets a set of completely new 17-inch geometric precision-cut alloy wheels.
At the rear, the Fronx gets a set of all-LED taillamps along with a connected LED light bar in the middle. It also gets a sculpted rear bumper that houses a massive silver skid plate. Overall, the Fronx boasts an extremely aggressive design on the outside, and it is the most unique offering from the brand in terms of design till date.
On the inside, the Fronx gets a dual-tone interior finished in black and brown shades. The interior from the company comes covered in faux leather. It also gets a multifunction steering wheel and a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with Surround Sense powered by ARKAMYS. The overall interior has been directly borrowed from the Baleno and looks strikingly similar. The Fronx also gets a wireless charger placed in front of the gear lever, and it also gets a heads-up display system.
Another highlight of the Fronx is that the top-spec variant gets a 360-degree reverse parking camera with multiple crash sensors. Furthermore, the Fronx also gets connected car tech, which helps the vehicle to connect to a mobile application as well as a smartwatch.
Moving on, in terms of safety, the car gets a total of 6 airbags. There are two airbags at the front, two on the sides of the seats, and two curtain airbags as well. Additionally, the car also gets ESP, Hill Hold Assist & Roll Over Mitigation, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX.
In terms of powertrain, the Fronx shares a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine with the Baleno, delivering 90 PS and 113 Nm of torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The top-spec models additionally sport a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is the same Boosterjet motor that powered the now-discontinued Baleno RS. This engine has been improved to meet BS6 stage II emission norms and generates 100 PS and 147 Nm of torque. It is available with both a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
