The prices for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx have been announced, and as expected, they are on par with other premium hatchbacks and compact SUVs available in India. In addition to fierce competition from other car makers, the Fronx will also compete with its stable mates from Maruti Suzuki – the Baleno premium hatchback and Brezza compact SUV.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx comes with two powertrain options – a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. While the 1.2-litre petrol engine variants are priced in the same range as the Baleno, the prices of variants powered by the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine are similar to those of the Brezza. The Fronx is Maruti Suzuki’s attempt to crack the code of the coupe-styled compact SUV category. There are only a few compact SUVs that follow this approach, such as the Tata Nexon and Renault Kiger. The Fronx is designed for those who want the practicality and space of a premium hatchback, but with the rugged appeal of a compact SUV.

The Fronx is the newest offering from Maruti Suzuki, which gives it the advantage of novelty. Many people who visit Nexa showrooms to check out the Baleno might end up buying the Fronx, as the latter offers SUV-ish looks at a small premium.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Despite the popularity of compact SUVs, some people still prefer hatchbacks for their urban commutes and occasional family drives. For these customers, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno remains a sensible choice. With the same cabin layout, features, and practicality as the Fronx, the Baleno serves as the base model for the development of the Fronx. With the highest ground clearance, tallest bonnet and roofline, and largest tires, the Brezza enjoys a stronger road presence than the other two Nexa offerings. While the cabin of the Brezza is marginally smaller than that of the Fronx and Baleno, it is the most feature-rich among the three and the only one that offers the novelty of a sunroof. It also has the largest engine among the three. While the turbo-petrol engine in the Fronx offers the highest torque, the Brezza’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine offers the most linear power delivery, making it the best highway companion in this company.
