Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: Official video explains how Strong Hybrid works [Video]

Maruti recently launched their all-new flagship SUV Grand Vitara in the Indian market. What makes this SUV different from others in the segment is its strong hybrid system. It competes with SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun in the segment. Grand Vitara was developed in collaboration with Toyota and their version of Grand Vitara is also available in the market as Toyota Hyryder. Maruti has now released an official video that shows how the strong hybrid system on the new Grand Vitara SUV actually works.

The video has been shared by Maruti on their Nexa experience page. Unlike the regular car, the strong hybrid or Intelligent Electric system as Maruti likes to call it works on combination of two power sources. In a regular ICE vehicle, the engine is the only source of power for the vehicle but, in this strong hybrid version the car uses a combination of internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The engine uses power from the fuel that is put into the car while the electric motor uses power from the battery pack placed in the boot of the car.

When you start the Grand Vitara strong hybrid, it uses the electric motor to move forward. The car behaves like an EV as it is extremely silent and also helps in increasing the fuel efficiency. The power control unit installed in this SUV automatically switches between the petrol and electric drive modes depending on the situation. This is done in order to optimise the power output and overall efficiency of the car. Unlike a regular EV, you don’t have to plug the car to a power source to recharge the batteries. The batteries would automatically charge themselves while the car is using the engine.

While accelerating, both engine and the electric motor power the car for better response and efficiency. It also has a dedicated EV mode which uses the electric motor only. While decelerating or braking, the energy produced is used to recharge the batteries that results in more range in EV mode. The Grand Vitara is a premium mid-size SUV that Maruti sells via Nexa dealerships. The car uses a 1.5 litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that runs on Atkinson cycle. The engine generates around 100 Ps and 122 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with an eCVT gearbox only.

Price for Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara starts at Rs 10.45 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 19.65 lakh, ex-showroom. The price for the strong hybrid version starts at Rs 17.99 lakh, ex-showroom. Maruti is offering many features with Grand Vitara that were never offered before. The strng hybrid version of the Grand Vitara comes with ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-tone leather upholstery, HUD, full-digital instrument cluster and so on. The strong hybrid system on the Grand Vitara has helped the manufacturer in launching an SUV that is the most fuel efficient in its segment. The Grand Vitara has a claimed fuel economy of 28 kmpl which is the highest in any vehicle in this segment in India.
