The other changes in 2019 include the addition of new safety features that will become mandatory in India from 1st April 2019. The new features include reverse parking assist system, co-driver seat belt reminder and high-speed alert system. All these features are now standard across all the variants. Maruti already offers dual front airbags and ABS+EBD as standard across all the variants in the Ignis. Other standard features include seat belt pre-tensioners with force limiters and ISOFIX hooks for child seats. The Ignis also meets the upcoming Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assesment Program (BNVSAP), which will be implemented in the Indian market later this year.
No changes have been done to the interiors. It was earlier speculated that Maruti will offer the Smart Studio infotainment system that debuted with the all-new WagonR and is available in the 2019 Baleno too.
Launching the new 2019 IGNIS, Mr R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) Maruti Suzuki India, said,
“Today, IGNIS has changed the way customers look at the premium compact segment. IGNIS has established itself as a complete package for those who seek the unconventional. Taking passenger safety to next level, we have loaded IGNIS with more safety features. These will be offered as standard across all variants. To enhance the design of IGNIS and give it a strong road presence, new roof rails are offered in Zeta and Alpha variants. We are confident that the updated version of IGNIS will be even more attractive for the premium urban car user.”
There are no changes in the colour options too. It is available in the Nexa Blue, Glistening Grey, Silky Silver, Pearl Arctic White, Tinsel Blue and Uptown Red. There are a few dual-tone colours too that include Tinsel Blue with Pearl Arctic White, Tinsel Blue with Midnight Black and Uptown Red with Midnight Black.
The 2019 Ignis gets powered by the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 82 Bhp and a peak torque of 113 Nm. It receives both manual and Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) as an option. Maruti Suzuki has discontinued the diesel engine in the Ignis due to the low popularity and upcoming BS-VI norms in 2020. The Ignis is offered in three automatic transmission options giving a wider range of choice to the customers. The Ignis takes on the cars like Hyundai Santro and is sold through the premium Nexa dealership network of the brand.
