Showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis has been spotted on test for the first time in India. The vehicle will be launched during the festive season this year, much like the enthusiast-oriented Baleno RS, which also made its debut at the Expo in concept form.
The test mule had steel rims while it appears that roof rails were covered under camouflage, like the rest of the body. The outside rear view mirrors had blinkers on them, while circular fog lamps can also be seen in the pictures.
Powering the Ignis is likely to be the same 1.2-liter K-Series petrol engine as found in other MSIL cars. It makes 83 hp and 115 Nm of torque. It remains to be seen whether MSIL includes a diesel in the line-up as well, and the same can be said about the AMT gearbox while a 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard.
The 3.7-meter-long vehicle will be positioned as a compact crossover, and will rival the Mahindra KUV100.
