People love Suzuki Jimny, and the huge anticipation by both common people and motoring enthusiasts is good enough to encourage Maruti Suzuki to launch it in India. However, while Maruti Suzuki is still in the stages of development and studying the feasibility of Jimny in India, someone in Mumbai has imported one directly here in India from Dubai through Carnet for a limited duration. The off-roader is constantly compared with the Mahindra Thar. And here are some fresh images, which compare the stances of Jimny and Thar while parked together.

The images of Suzuki Jimny and Mahindra Thar having a good time together outdoors have been shared by Cyrus Dhabhar on his Instagram handle. In a couple of images shared by him, we can see the three-door green-coloured Suzuki Jimny and a three-door grey-coloured Mahindra Thar parked together, which gives a clear idea of the road presence of Jimny in comparison with the Thar. While the first image shows the two off-roaders parked side-by-side, the other image shows both the SUVs parked in a line.

Jimny Vs Thar size
From the images, it is evident that the Suzuki Jimny feels one size small when compared to the Mahindra Thar. All the dimensions of the Jimny – length, width and height – are smaller than those of the Thar. Also, towards the rear, the Mahindra Thar has a more proportionate-looking side profile, when compared to the Jimny, which gives an impression of a chopped-off SUV from the rear.
However, when it comes to displaying a rugged appeal, both the SUVs here score brilliantly. Both the Jimny and Thar are having an upright and boxy stance, with flared wheel arches and tough-looking front and rear bumpers. They also get a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, blacked door handles and rearview mirrors and chunky-looking alloy wheels wrapped over with off-road spec tyres.
The Suzuki Jimny is currently available globally with a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine, producing 105 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque and available with two transmission options – a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. However, the five-door version of the Jimny, which is said to arrive in India next year, will get a new-gen 1.5-litre K15C Dualjet petrol engine, which produces 103 PS of power and 136.8 Nm of torque and will be available with the choices of a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. It will also retain the AllGrip four-wheel-drive system from the three-door version sold globally.
Despite its small size, offroad enthusiasts have been pitting the Suzuki Jimny in battle against offroaders of all sorts, even ones that cost ten times that of the Jimny. And the Jimny has always performed admirably. The rear seats of the 3-door Jimny with minimal leg room are just not enough for a market like India – and hence the five door Jimny with a longer wheelbase which will deal with the problem. We have no idea if Maruti will price it high and expect only minimal sales, or price it very competitively, as an alternative to the Mahindra Thar. If it is the second, it would tell us whether India’s off-road enthusiast market is all talk and no walk! Sales of the Jimny would give us the answer.
