Maruti Suzuki Jimny blasts past 9000 bookings in India

It seems like the newest and only fully capable off-roader Jimny five-door from the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited is garnering a ton of interest in the country. The vehicle was already long anticipated in India after not having the three-door model on sale which was available in international markets. The new SUV in just two days since its unveiling at the 2023 Auto Expo received over 3,000 bookings and then it breached the 5,000 booking mark as well. Now it has been just reported that the all-new Jimny has now also crossed the 9,000 reservations milestone also.

Recently it was also reported that Maruti Suzuki has increased the booking amount of Jimny from Rs 11,000 to Rs 25,000 to avoid getting non serious bookings. It was also reported that the waiting periods on this new SUV have already touched the three months mark. Prior to this report, it was also reported by the sources that Maruti Suzuki had already told its vendors and suppliers to be prepared for producing 5000-6000 units of the Jimny every month.

The five door Jimny which is the extended iteration of the already popular three-door Jimny was on the radar of a lot of buyers in the country long before its final unveil at the Auto Expo 2023. This new SUV is the brands only ladder-on-frame SUV which will be offered with a dedicated off-road system. The Jimny five-door will be manufactured at the company manufacturing plant in Gujarat. The plant already manufactures the three-door Jimny for the international markets.

On the outside, the Jimny five door looks just like the three-doordoor Jimny, except it has two more doors. The brand-new Jimny five-door is under 4-meters in length, breadth, and height at 3,985mm, 1,645mm, and 1,720mm, respectively. The SUV has a 210mm ground clearance. Additionally, the Jimny’s approach angle is 36 degrees, ramp break-over is 24 degrees, and departure is 50 degrees.

Meanwhile, the inside of the five-door Jimny also resembles the three-door model quite a bit. At the centre of the dashboard an infotainment system with a touchscreen takes the spotlight.  It also boasts the SmartPlay system with connectivity options including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new Jimny also comes with remote options that display the car’s status and other crucial data on a smartphone app linked to the vehicle. In terms of safety features the SUV also gets 6 airbags, Brake Limited Slip Differential (LSD), ESP with hill hold assist, hill descent control, rearview camera and ABS with EBD.

The Jimny is the Indo-Japanese automakers only offering the country to feature a capable off-road system. The SUV gets the Suzuki AllGrip Pro system features 4L, which is low-range transfer gear, 2H, and 4H four-wheel drive on-the-fly. The precise ratio of the low-ratio gearbox has not been confirmed by Maruti Suzuki.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny will come powered by the brands time tested 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated K15C Dualjet engine, which also powers the updated Ertiga and XL6 and the all-new Brezza. Assisted with a mild-hybrid system, this engine produces 104.8 PS of maximum power and 134.2 Nm of maximum torque. While a 5-speed manual gearbox will be offered as the standard transmission, an optional 4-speed torque converter will also be introduced as an option. Maruti Suzuki has tweaked the engine to make it more suitable for off-roading.
