Maruti Suzuki prepares for the launch of the Jimny in India: Marketing plans on

Maruti Suzuki India, the largest car seller in the Indian market and that too by a large margin will launch a slew of all-new cars in the Indian market. The most exciting of these upcoming launches is the Jimny, which will replace the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy from the model line-up. Maruti Suzuki has now started working on the various pre-launch procedures for the Jimny.

According to an interview between Shashank Srivastava, executive director, sales and marketing, Maruti Suzuki India and WhatCar?, the work has already started to launch Jimny in the Indian market. Srivastava confirms that Maruti Suzuki has started working on the marketing and strategy for the upcoming SUV. While Maruti Suzuki never confirmed the launch of the Jimny in the Indian market officially, last year, during an investor’s meet, the manufacturer had announced its plan to launch the SUV in the Indian market.

Interestingly, Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat is already manufacturing the Jimny but that is only for the export markets. Maruti Suzuki showcased the all-new Jimny at the 2020 Auto Expo and received extremely good feedback from the visitors. However, Maruti Suzuki is still doing its research in the market to put a price tag on the Jimny whenever it launches.

3-door and 5-door to be launched

Maruti Suzuki will launch the standard version of the Jimny that is already getting manufactured in India. There will be a five-door version that will be launched too. While Mahindra is working on the five-door version of the Thar, Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch both three-door and five-door variants of the Jimny from the start

Suzuki has started testing the five-door version of the Jimny internationally. The 5-door version looks exactly the same as the 3-door version but it gets a long wheelbase. Maruti Suzuki will target the families with the LWB version while the off-roading enthusiasts will likely choose the SWB Jimny, which is more capable.

Shashank Srivastava is yet to confirm the launch timeframe of the Jimny. However, there are strong chances of the vehicle getting launched in the first quarter of 2022.

A petrol-only engine

Maruti Suzuki stopped selling all diesel vehicles last year after the BS6 update in the market. The upcoming Jimny will also get powered only by petrol engine options. The 1.5-litre K15B engine that is already available with many Maruti Suzuki models in India will power the upcoming Jimny. It generates a maximum of around 102 PS. There will be a more powerful version of the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki available with the Jimny.

The same engine is also available with the Ciaz, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga in India. Maruti Suzuki is expected to offer a manual as well as a 4-speed automatic transmission with the upcoming Jimny.

The Jimny will take on the likes of Mahindra Thar head-on. There is no other option that will compete with Jimny. With the rising popularity of Thar, we are sure that the Jimny will also find a lot of buyers in the market.
