The Alto 800 Maximum Edition hatchback is the latest Maruti Suzuki car to get a cosmetic and feature upgrade, just in time for the festive season. The latest “special edition” model of the Alto 800 is to commemorate the car’s 25 lakh sales achievement. Sales of the Alto 800 have been showing wild swings over the past few months, with the hatchback losing out its “top selling car in India” status to stablemate Dzire twice in the past six months.
Maruti Suzuki has endowed the Maximum edition of the Alto 800 with a long list of features while body decals, hatchlid spoiler and new wheel caps make for the exterior styling changes. On the inside, the Alto 800 Maximum Edition gets a factory fitted stereo, keyless entry and artificial leather seat covers.
The Alto 800 Maximum gets benefits worth 66,000 rupees and this includes the additional kit on offer. The car is sold with petrol and CNG engine options. The motor for both fuel options is the 796 cc-triple cylinder F8D engine that outputs 47 Bhp of peak power and 69 Nm of peak torque.
A five speed manual transmission drives the front wheels of the car. The Alto 800 is due for a mid life makeover next year. The car’s line up also has a more powerful K10 version that will receive an automated manual transmission early next year. Like the Alto 800, the Alto K10 is also expected to undergo a makeover next year.
Maruti Suzuki is working on refining a twin cylinder, 800cc turbo diesel engine that the automaker will first introduce in the Y9T pick up truck, which is due for a launch in the first half of 2015. If this twin pot diesel motor can be refined to match the standards expected from small cars, the Alto is one of Maruti Suzuki’s many hatchbacks that could adopt diesel power.
