Maruti Suzuki micro SUV launch timeline revealed: Mahindra KUV100 rival

While Maruti already offers the Ignis in the entry-level segment, which has some SUV-inspired design but the production version of the Future-S will be bulkier and will have more SUV DNA than the Ignis. Maruti is working on the Future-S concept and it will sit below the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

Maruti will take on the likes of Mahindra KUV 100, which is currently present in the segment. The Future-S concept will have the wheelbase equal to the Ignis and the length of the vehicle will be similar to the Ignis too. However, it will have more SUV-ish features. In the recent times, the popularity of the SUVs has increased by multiple folds. The success of the Renault Kwid has cemented the same fact.

Maruti Suzuki dislodged the long-time leader, Mahindra and Mahindra from the top-selling SUV manufacturer after the launch of Vitara Brezza. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is the first sub-4-meter SUV from the brand and has gained an unprecedented lead from the any other UVs in the market.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to continue their dominance in the UV segment with the new launch too. It is expected to be a high-volume product. Mahindra KUV 100, however, could not do much in the market due to various reasons. It still gets a decent sales-figure though.

The car will be built on the HEARTECT platform that also underpins that also underpins the Baleno, all-new Swift and other Maruti cars. Maruti is expected to launch the micro-SUV with an only petrol engine. There will be a 1.2-litre petrol engine with the car and Maruti can also offer the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) automatic transmission in the segment.
