Maruti Suzuki has showcased the MR wagon at the Auto Expo 2012. The MR wagon bagged the ‘Good design award 2011” in Japan.
The front face of MR Wagon is design-inspired by Mymble Moomin a character in the Moomin cartoon family. The bonnet line over the headlamps acts like an eyebrow to the Mymble Moomin eye-like headlamps.
The side profile of the MR Wagon closely resembles the WagonR sold in India. The rear quarter glass has a curvy edge unlike the square-shaped quarter glass in the Wagon R.
The rear looks bland with classic pull type boot door handle, high mounted taillamps and boxy rear windscreen.
The MR Wagon is powered by RO6A type, 660 cc, DOHC, 3-cylinder engine that puts out 54 PS of power and 63 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to CVT transmission and returns a fuel economy of 24.2 kmpl as per Japanese standards. However the engine for India will likely be different, and will come with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Inside the MR Wagon, you can find a rectangular dashboard with steering wheel and AC vents shape exactly like the India-specific Wagon R. The piano black centre panel has a touch screen control.
The MR Wagon can house four adults easily. The front seats have centre armrest while the rear seat has 50:50 split and hence act like two separate seats. The luggage space is adequate and there are plenty of cubby holes and storage pockets. The rear seats can be folded down to free up more space when needed.
