Maruti Suzuki recalls 1.35 lakh units of Baleno & WagonR for fuel pump inspection

India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has a variety of cars in their line up. The manufacturer has today announced that they will be proactively recalling WagonR hatchback and Baleno premium hatchback for a possible issue with the fuel pump. Maruti Suzuki has announced that they’ll be recalling 1,34,885 units of of WagonR and Baleno in total.

Maruti Suzuki will be recalling WagonR hatchback 1.0 litre petrol version version manufactured between 15th November 2018 to 15 October 2019  and Baleno petrol manufactured between 8th January 2019 to 4th November 2019. Manufacturer will inspect a total of 56,663 units of WagonR and 78,222 units of Baleno premium hatchbacks.

Maruti has announced that the owners of the suspected vehicles will be contacted by authorized dealerships in due course of time. The issue is a possible faulty fuel pump and the faulty part will be replaced, free of cost. Customers of suspected vehicles can also visit the ‘Imp Customer Info’ section on the Company websites www.marutisuzuki.com (for WagonR) and www.nexaexperience.com (for Baleno) and fill in their vehicles chassis number (MA3 or MBH, followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) to check if their vehicle needs any attention and follow the instructions. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also mentioned in the vehicle invoice / registration documents.

Baleno Ooh Hybrid

Maruti WagonR hatchback has been present in the country for quite some time and is a very popular family hatchback in India. Maruti upfdated and launched an all-new WagonR back in January 2019 and was available with a 1.0 litre three cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.2 litre, four cylinder naturally aspirated engine. Both 1.0 litre and 1.2 litre versions are available with manual and AMT gearbox options. As per Maruti’s announcement, the fault is suspected to be with 1.0 litre version only. Nothing has been mentioned about 1.2 litre version.

The Baleno is Maruti’s premium hatchback, and issold via Nexa dealerships across the country. The Baleno competes with cars such as the Tata Altroz, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz in the premium hatchback segment. The Baleno was the first car from the manufacturer to go BS6, and is currently available with a petrol engine only. It is available with a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.2 litre petrol Smart Hybrid engine. Only the regular petrol engine gets a CVT gearbox option along with a 5-speed manual. The mild hybrid engine is available with a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard.
