Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. launched the S-CNG variant of their mini SUV S-Presso in the market. Price for the S-CNG variant of S-Presso starts at Rs 5.9 lakh, ex-showroom. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso was initially introduced in the market in 2019 and earlier this year Maruti launched the updated version of the S-Presso with dualJet petrol engine. The new CNG version of the S-Presso would make the ownership experience more exciting. Maruti is offering S-Presso CNG in LXI and VXI variants. The launch of Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG vehicles is aligned with and complements the Government of India’s vision to reduce oil imports and enhance the share of natural gas in the country’s primary energy mix. Government is also working on expanding the CNG fuel pump network in India.
Introducing the new S-Presso S-CNG, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The SUV inspired design of the S-Presso has ensured that it has found many takers for its prominent road presence. The S-CNG version will build on the success of the popular S-Presso, of which we have sold over 2.26 lakh units. The S-Presso S-CNG is sure to delight customers with its amazing fuel-efficiency and strong performance. We now have 10 S-CNG models in our portfolio, which are designed to reduce ownership cost and strengthen our commitment to a cleaner and greener environment.”
The new Maruti S-Press S-CNG is powered by next-generation K-Series 1.0 litre DualJet petrol engine. This is a three cylinder engine with dual injectors for each of its three cylinders. Like many other Maruti cars, fuel efficiency is a major selling point for S-Presso as well. With the introduction of CNG, it will go up even more. The 1.0 litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine generates 56.69 Ps and 82.1 Nm of peak torque in CNG mode. The same engine generates 65.26 Ps and 89 Nm of peak torque in petrol mode. The S-CNG version of Maruti S-Presso is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The S-Presso S-CNG model has a certified fuel economy of 32.73 km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki has one of the biggest line-up of factory fitted CNG cars in the country. Maruti currently has 10 S-CNG models in the market. The S-CNG system used in the S-Presso has been conceptualized, designed and developed at company’s world-class Research and Development facility. As there is a CNG cylinder in the boot, the weight of the S-Presso is more than that of the regular petrol version. As part of the conversion, Maruti also made changes to the suspension setup of the S-Presso. This has been done to enhance the ride quality, comfort and safety. In all the Maruti models that come with factory fitted CNG, it gets dual-interdependent
Electronic Control Units (ECU), an intelligent fuel injection system, stainless steel pipes and joints, along with integrated wiring harnesses for the CNG system. The S-CNG system comes with a microswitch that ensures the engine is turned off and does not start during the CNG fuel-filling process. Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG systems are engineered to provide an air-fuel ratio that ensures superior performance and enhanced driveability, with better savings.
