Maruti Suzuki sells nearly 5,000 cars/day in February, driven by Baleno, Swift & Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki sold a whopping 137,900 cars in the month of February 2018, and that makes for an average of nearly 5,000 cars each day. In terms of year-on-year figures, Maruti has improved by a whopping 15 %. In February 2017, the leading Indian automaker sold about 1.2 lakh cars.

The sales for February were driven by good show across Maruti’s portfolio of cars and SUVs. However, the Baleno, the newly-launched Swift and the Vitara Brezza sub-4 meter compact SUV did better than the rest of Maruti’s car line-up. The maximum sales growth were witnessed in the B-Segment hatchbacks and the UV segment for Maruti.

The new Swift, launched just weeks ago, has racked bookings of over 65,000 units in just a month of official bookings opening. The car starts from a price of Rs. 4.99 lakhs, and is available in both petrol and diesel variants. For the first time in the history of the Swift brand, Maruti offers AMT options on both the petrol and diesel engined models. A lot of people are said to be opting for the AMT models. The Swift is based on a new HEARTECT platform that it shares with the Dzire.

The Baleno is India’s best-selling premium hatchback, which also uses the HEARTECT platform. While the Baleno shares its engines with the Swift, it’s significantly larger in size and offers more premium features. It’s also costlier, and is meant for hatchback buyers who want that something extra from their cars. There’s a high performance RS variant of the car also on sale, which gets an exclusive 1 liter turbo petrol engine. Prices of the Baleno start from a little under Rs. 5.5 lakhs.

The Vitara Brezza, India’s best selling sub-4 meter compact SUV, clocks more than 10,000 units of sales each month. This, despite the vehicle being a diesel-only model. Though competition offers petrol engines, at cheaper prices, the Vitara Brezza still rules sales charts. It’s reasonably well equipped and ABS+Twin Airbags are standard across the range. The top-of-the-line Brezza gets Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Prices start from Rs. 7.2 lakhs.
