Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has the highest market share in the Indian car market. The brand added another feather in the cap by posting highest-ever monthly sales in April 2018. The largest carmaker in India sold 172,986 units of vehicles in April 2018, which is a 14.4 percent increase over the same month in 2017. The manufacturer has been posting an increase in sales over the months and April was the fourteenth straight month where the overall sales of its cars increased.
The sales figures also show that the entry-level cars like Alto and WagonR have seen a decline of 2.9% and the company has sold 37,794 units of vehicles from the mini segment. The biggest driving force behind the sales increase was the compact segment that shows the increased power of spending by the Indian customers. Cars like Swift, Dzire, Celerio, Baleno and Ignis gained in quite a lot of buyers and saw a growth of over 31 percent. Maruti sold a total of 83,834 units of vehicles in this segment.
However, the sales of Ciaz declined by over 27.2 percent with total sales of 5,116 units in April. The low sales of the flagship sedan can be because of the upcoming Ciaz that is scheduled to arrive soon. Also, the Indian government removed the FAME benefits from the hybrid cars that increased the prices of the Ciaz diesel hybrid significantly.
Recent trends have shown that the customers are preferring buying larger vehicles instead of the entry-level cars like Alto and WagonR. This has also made the all-new Dzire the biggest selling vehicle in the Indian market after its launch for a few months. This changing customer preference will play a major role in the arrival of new cars in the Indian market. Currently, Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the new Ertiga, new Ciaz and the Swift Sport in the Indian market this year.
