Come 2015, Maruti Suzuki is planning to give the Ciaz C-Segment sedan a sporty flavour. The automaker is readying up a body kit equipped Ciaz, which will receive more equipment on the inside and revised looks on the outside. The body kit of the Ciaz will include revised bumpers at the front and the rear, side skirts, a boot lid spoiler, matte finish for the alloy wheels and a contrast paint job at the rear. On the inside,a touchscreen infotainment module and leather upholstery will dominate proceedings. The Ciaz is India’s best selling C-Segment sedan and the new, sporty version is meant to continue the car’s good run.
Currently, the Ciaz is sold with two engine options, a 1.4 liter-4 cylinder K-Series petrol motor that makes 90 Bhp-130 Nm and a 1.3 liter-4 cylinder Multijet turbo diesel motor with 90 Bhp-200 Nm outputs. Both engines use 5 speed manual transmissions while the petrol engine also comes with a 4 speed automatic gearbox as an option. Maruti Suzuki is likely to add the body kit to both the petrol and diesel engined versions of the Ciaz. The sporty variants of the Ciaz are expected to carry price mark ups of about 50,000 rupees, and will sit at the top of the variant line up.
Maruti Suzuki is working on moving up the value chain in the Indian car market, where the automaker has been pigeonholed as a budget car brand. The Ciaz is Maruti Suzuki’s latest effort to move upmarket, and the initial response to the car has been emboldening, what with 6,345 units of the Ciaz hitting dealer stockyards. Maruti Suzuki’s next premium offering will be the S-Cross crossover, which will sit above the Ciaz, in the 8-12 lakh rupee segment. The S-Cross will be followed by another premium vehicle, in the form of the YRA B+ segment hatchback.
