While there are plenty of reports saying that MSIL is considering a petrol engined version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, but none has been confirmed yet. Adding to the speculation is a tweet by noted motoring journalist (and editor of evo India), Sirish Chandran. According to him, the 1-liter turbocharged petrol ‘Boosterjet’ engine will be added to the Vitara Brezza in the 3rd quarter this year.

The engine is said to debut in the company’s upcoming enthusiast-oriented Baleno RS premium hatchback. A recent report by IAB mentions that due to inferior quality of fuel available in the country, MSIL’s engineers are retuning the engine. They want to keep the maximum output as close to the 110 hp mark.
While it remains to be seen how the Baleno fares against the Polo GT TSI and the Abarth Punto when it goes on sale, it must be noted that with the said engine, the Vitara Brezza can give the EcoSport EcoBoost a hard time.
The latter uses a 1-liter turbocharged petrol engine (EcoBoost) that makes 125 PS and 170 Nm of maximum torque.
