Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Vs Yamaha YZF-R15S drag race: Who wins?

There has been a long-standing debated between the cars enthusiasts and bike lovers. It is a known fact that bikes are much quicker off-the-line and can accelerate much quicker than cars due to the weight advantage. However, every now and then there’s a face-off between the cars and the bikers. Here is one such drag race between a bike and an SUV on the streets to see which one is faster.

Yamaha YZF-R15S Vs Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

The race happened between the YZF-R15 S and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The length of the road is about 200 meters as mentioned in the video uploaded by Atul J. The race is done on the public roads but it is empty. However, we recommend not to over speed or do drag races on the public roads as the public roads can be extremely unpredictable and any mishap can happen due to pedestrian, stray cattle or other vehicles on the roads.

The video shows both the vehicles starting off the mark and the Yamaha R15S taking the lead soon after. The bike maintains the lead all through the drag race and finishes well ahead of the Vitara Brezza in the end. As per the video, zebra crossing was set as the finish line in the race.

It should be noted that the bike used in the video is the Yamaha R15S and not Version 3.0. The Yamaha R15S uses the old 149cc engine instead of the new 155cc engine. The Yamaha YZF-R15S gets powered by the liquid-cooled, 149cc, 4-stroke engine that also powered the R15 V2.0 and the original R15. It produces a maximum power of 16.5 PS at 8,500 rpm and peak torque of 15 Nm at 7,500 rpm. The R15S gets a 6-speed transmission.

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza gets powered by a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder engine that generates a maximum power of 90 PS and peak torque of 200 Nm. It gets a 5-speed transmission. Even though the power of the Vitara Brezza is much more than the R15, it also weighs much more than the R15, which decreases the overall power-to-weight ratio. Even though the drag race happened between two completely different segments of vehicles, it should be noted that the 6-speed transmission of R15S ensures a shorter first gear that helps quite a lot when it comes to acceleration.

Almost all the affordable performance bikes are quicker than the entry-level luxury cars. However, the price of the entry-level luxury cars often always remains out of the reach of the enthusiasts but bikes are much more affordable. Comparing the performance of cars and bikes, motorcycles are always more value-for-money. For example, a litre-class bike priced at Rs 20 lakh will be able to replicate the performance of a sports car priced at more than Rs 1 crore.
