Maruti Suzuki WagonR CNG launched at Rs. 4.84 lakh

Maruti launched the all-new WagonR earlier this year. The all-new WagonR gets the all-new HEARTECT platform that also forms the base of the cars like Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Maruti Suzuki Swift. The all-new WagonR is bigger in size and for the first time, Maruti Suzuki introduced two engine options with the WagonR. The all-new WagonR is available with the 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine and the 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine. There is no option of a diesel engine in the WagonR.

At the time of the launch, Maruti Suzuki officially announced that the CNG version of the all-new WagonR will be launched in the market soon. The CNG version of the WagonR only gets the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine, which was available with the last-generation WagonR too. Maruti has not officially revealed the power figures but it should be identical to the petrol version of the model.

The 1.0-litre engine of the WagonR produces a maximum of 67 Bhp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 90 Nm at 3,500 rpm. The more powerful 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine produces a maximum power of 82 Bhp and 113 Nm of torque in the WagonR. The 1.2-litre engine is only available with a petrol fuel option. Maruti also offers automatic AMT transmission with the WagonR in the Indian market with both the engine options but it is not available with the CNG version of the hatchback.

On introduction of WagonR CNG, Mr. R.S. Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said,

At Maruti Suzuki, we continuously strive to offer products that are technologically advanced and environment-friendly. With WagonR S-CNG customers will be able to enjoy the benefit of 26% better fuel economy than the outgoing WagonR CNG and superior technology which is safe, reliable and environmentally friendly.”

The new Maruti WagonR CNG gets dual ECU with intelligent Gas Port Injection System that provides superior pick-up and drivability. Also, the factory-fitted CNG system is designed to be anti-corrosive and gets stainless steel components that ensure optimal safety. Other features available with the new WagonR CNG is automatic switch-over that provides a seamless switch between the petrol and the CNG and there are indicators to monitor the fuel level separately too.

The new WagonR CNG offers better fuel efficiency than the outgoing version of the car. It returns a maximum of 33.54 km/kg, which is 26% better than the last version. It should be noted that the all-new WagonR competes with the all-new Hyundai Santro in the Indian market and the Hyundai offers CNG with the Santro from the day of launch.
