Amidst the slowdown in the automobile industry in India, Maruti Suzuki still rules the market and seven out of top ten selling cars are from them. In the month of July, the all-new WagonR replaced claimed the first position by outselling vehicles like Alto and Dzire.
A total of 15,062 units of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR were sold in the Indian market replacing the Maruti Suzuki Alto from the top spot. Surprisingly, the Alto settled down at the fourth position behind the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Maruti Suzuki Swift. Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new WagonR in the Indian market in January 2019. Since then, the car has seen a stable sale of above 10,000 units. In the same period, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire sold 12,923 units while the Swift settled at 12,677, only a couple of hundred units behind the Dzire. Only 11,577 units of the Alto were sold in the market. Alto is the most affordable vehicle from the brand.
In March, Maruti Suzuki officially launched the CNG version of the WagonR. Since the CNG has become a popular fuel choice, especially in the metro cities, the new version made the vehicle even more popular. The all-new WagonR is made on the new HEARTECT platform, which makes it lighter in weight. Also, for the first time ever, Maruti Suzuki offers two engine options with the WagonR. All these factors have contributed to the popularity of the hatchback.
This is the third-generation of the WagonR in the Indian market and it looks completely different from the previous version. With the new platform, Maruti Suzuki has already increased the dimensions of the vehicle, which adds a lot of cabin space too. Overall, the WagonR now offers a larger cabin space while offering more power. In the future, Maruti Suzuki will also launch an EV version of the WagonR in the Indian market and it is currently going under thorough tests on the public roads.
Even with the launch of the all-new WagonR, Maruti Suzuki retains the tallboy design of the hatchback, which made it popular in the first place. However, the overall shape has changed by a bit. The all-new WagonR is longer by 60mm, wider by a massive 145mm. However, it is shorter by 25mm. The wheelbase of the vehicle has become 35mm. The already spacious WagonR now offers more space.
The Maruti Suzuki introduced the bigger 1.2-litre petrol engine option, which also powers the vehicles like Ignis and the Swift. The 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, the naturally aspirated engine produces a maximum power of 82 Bhp and 113 Nm. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine produces a maximum power of 67 Bhp and peak torque of 90 Nm. Both the engine options get the 5-speed manual transmission and AMT automatic transmission.
