The Suzuki YRA B+ segment premium hatchback that will be sold under the Maruti Suzuki brand in India next year, will make its global debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. This suggests that the YRA will be a global hatchback on the lines of the Swift. Test mules of the YRA have already arrived into India and the car has been partially revealed through a slew of spyshots that hit the interweb last week. The YRA B+ segment hatchback will be a plush offering from Suzuki, which while not offering the same kind of driving experience as the Swift, will up the luxury quotient by a few notches.
In line with this, the YRA hatchback will offer plenty of space on the innards, to make it a comfortable car on the lines on the Hyundai i20 Elite and the upcoming Honda Jazz. A 1 liter-3 cylinder turbo petrol engine and the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet motor could be in the scheme of things for the YRA hatchback. The petrol motor is likely to offer manual and automatic transmissions, with the diesel motor making do with a manual gearbox set up. In terms of price and positioning, the YRA will sit above the Maruti Suzuki Swift. Expect prices of the base petrol variant pf the YRA to start near the 5 lakh rupee mark.
A new revelation emerging about the YRA is that the hatchback will be a full 90 kilograms lighter than the Swift. This weight target is likely to be achieved by means of high tensile steel, a tactic that Maruti Suzuki followed to stunning effect on the Ciaz C-Segment sedan. The light weight of the YRA will most likely translate into perky performance and a high fuel efficiency number, not to forget the tail pipe emission reduction. The YRA hatchback will be Maruti Suzuki’s first foray into premium B+ segment hatchback space in India.
