Maruti to show 18 cars at the 2018 Auto Expo: From Vitara to Swift Sport

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automaker has officially announced that there will be as many as 18 cars on display at the brand’s pavilion in Auto Expo. The company will have a 4,200 sq mt area which will have the theme of Transformation. Let’s have a look at all the car the Indian brand will showcase at the event.

Maruti will showcase a new compact SUV at the Auto Expo that will be placed below the Vitara Brezza. The new car is known as Future S and it is still a concept. Maruti says that the increased liking of UVs and changing customer preference has given to this vehicle. The concept will make its global premiere in India.

It is only 200mm shorter than the Brezza and the concept vehicle will show the challenges faced by the designers to make proportionate looking UV vehicle of this size. The car is expected to be underpinned by the HEARTECT platform and powered by 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre all-new diesel engine.

e-Survivor

Maruti will also showcase the e-Survivor concept that was revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show last year. The concept SUV is based on Jimny but is wider than it and is powered by four electric motors mounted each wheel. The cabin features a spherical display that shows the immediate surrounding. It also gets state-of-the-art sensors that reveal information to the screen. The car will showcase Suzuki’s new F.A.C.E mobility that stands for Four-Wheel Drive, Autonomous, Connected and Electric.

All-new Swift

The all-new Swift has been officially unveiled in India and it will be launched at the Auto Expo. The Swift gets the same engines as the last generation but because of the lighter body, the performance and the fuel efficiency have gone up. The all-new Swift also gets features like projector LED headlamps, touch-screen infotainment and larger cabin space. Maruti will also offer AMT automatic transmission for the first time in the Swift.

Swift Sport

Maruti will also launch the hot hatchback Swift Sport in India after the launch of Swift. The hot hatch will be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 138 Bhp – 230 Nm. The Swift Sport will also get a body kit featuring new splitter, side skirts, different alloy wheels and contrasting bumpers that will add a racy look to it.

Ciaz facelift

Maruti is testing the new Ciaz with a minor facelift in India and the car will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. The new Ciaz has been already caught testing in India with the new bumpers. Under the hood, the new Ciaz is expected to get the new 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel that is currently being developed by Maruti Suzuki.

All-new Ertiga

Maruti Suzuki is also working on a new vehicle based on the Ertiga. Codenamed as YHB, the new vehicle will be a rugged version of the Ertiga in India. The vehicle will take on the likes of Honda BR-V that looks rugged and offers 7-seats. It is possible that Maruti will show the vehicle during the Auto Expo.

The new vehicle will share the same underpinnings as the next generation Ertiga, but the outer look will be different. The engine options are expected to remain same as the Ertiga.

Vitara

The Grand Vitara will soon make a comeback to the Indian market as Vitara. The 5-seat SUV is expected to return to the Indian market with a diesel engine sourced from Fiat. It will be Maruti flagship in India and could be offered with an AWD option too. It will go against the likes of Jeep Compass in the market. Indian market may see an official launch by late 2018.

All-new Alto

The entry-level hatchback from Maruti has been around for a long time now. The stricter safety rules in India that will be in effect in next couple of years will see a vast change in the automotive industry. The popular hatchback Alto will make way for the new one in 2019 due to the implement of BNVSAP (Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assesment Program) and Maruti will showcase it in the Auto Expo.

Maruti has already started testing the JDM model of the Alto in India. It is expected to be powered by a 660cc engine that will be offered with an optional AMT. The engine produces a maximum of 51 Bhp – 63 Nm.

All-new WagonR

Just like the Alto, the WagonR will also be replaced by an all-new vehicle. Suzuki launched the updated version of the car in the Japanese market last year. The new car looks completely different from the current one but maintains the tall-boy stance. The new WagonR is expected to reach India somewhere in 2019, but Maruti will showcase a concept model or international version at the Auto Expo.

Vitara Brezza petrol

The Brezza is the highest selling sub 4-metre compact SUV in India. Maruti has a long waiting period on the vehicle. The Brezza was launched only in diesel variants initially and Maruti had expressed that they are willing to launch a petrol powered Brezza in the future. Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol is in works and the SUV will be showcased at the 2018 auto Expo.

The car will be powered by the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder Boosterjet engine that powers the Baleno RS in the current lineup. Maruti is planning to launch an automatic version of the Brezza as right now the only manual transmission is available.

S-Cross petrol

The flagship car of the manufacturer, S-Cross was updated last year. Indian market only gets the 1.3-litre diesel powered S-Cross. However, Maruti already manufactures the S-Cross in the Indian plant for the export markets like Indonesia. Maruti will take the occasion of the Auto Expo to showcase the petrol version of the car in India. The export model of the vehicle is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops 108 Bhp. After the omission of the 1.6-litre engine from the market, we can expect the powerful petrol engine powered S-Cross on its way to India soon.

Current line-up

The rest of the cars at the Maruti pavilion will be the current line-up of the brand. The current line-up consists of Alto, WagonR, Ignis, Dzire, Baleno, Vitara Brezza, Gypsy. Maruti may showcase interesting modifications based on the new vehicles like Ignis and the Brezza to show their customisation possibilities.
