Maruti WagonR to Tata Harrier: India’s most anticipated cars & SUVs of 2019

The Indian car market has become one of the largest in the world. Manufacturers have launched a few much-anticipated models in the Indian market including the all-new Santro in 2018. In 2019, there are many more high-awaited vehicles. Here is a list of all the upcoming cars that will be launched in the Indian market in 2019.

Tata Harrier

Launch: 23rd January

Tata revealed the all-new Harrier, which is based on the highly modified version of the Jaguar Land Rover’s D8 platform. The Harrier gets powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum of 138 Bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The Tata Harrier will only get a 6-speed manual transmission at the time of the launch. It also gets terrain response system to take on the challenging surfaces. The Harrier is highly anticipated as it is the first-ever car based on the all-new Omega Arc platform. Tata is expected to price it at around Rs. 12 lakhs, ex-showroom.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

Launch: 23rd January

Maruti Suzuki will launch the all-new WagonR in the Indian market later this month. The tall-boy hatchback is based on a modified chassis of the current-generation WagonR. The all-new Maruti Suzuki WagonR is bigger in dimensions than the current version. Maruti will offer both 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with the WagonR. Both the engine options will get AMT automatic transmission. The WagonR has been due for a model change for a long time now and it is finally happening.

Mahindra XUV 300

The XUV 300 is a much-awaited SUV in the market. Even though it will be the fourth car by Mahindra in the same segment, it is completely different from what Mahindra offered in the segment till now. The all-new XUV 300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform. It gets signature Mahindra design language and gets a long list of features. The first-in-segment feature list includes a dual-zone climate control system, disc brakes on all four wheels, the longest wheelbase in the segment and most torque-rich engine in the segment. It will be powered by 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engines in the Indian market.

Hyundai Styx

Expected launch: Mid 2019

The Hyundai Styx is the production version of the Carlino concept model showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. The Styx will be a global car and will be unveiled at the New York Motor Show. It will be the first ever sub-4m compact SUV from the brand in the Indian market and will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and upcoming Mahindra XUV 300. It is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates around 118 Bhp of maximum power and a 1.5-litre diesel engine generating around 115 Bhp.

Honda Civic

Expected launch: February 2019

Honda will bring back the Civic moniker to the Indian market soon. The all-new 10th generation Civic will be launched next month and it looks nothing like the 8th generation Civic that was available in the Indian market earlier. The all-new Civic is powered by a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that generates around 140Bhp – 174 Nm. There would be a 1.6-litre diesel engine available with the all-new Civic too. It will generate a maximum power of 120 Bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque. Honda Civic is an enthusiast’s delight is a highly anticipated car in the market.

Tata H7X

Tata has already started working on the extended wheelbase version of the Harrier and it has been caught testing Turin, Italy. Codenamed as the H7X, it will share the platform with the Harrier. Tata has said that the H7X would be distinctly different from the Harrier in terms of design. It will get a flatter roof and a toned down body design. The 2.0-litre diesel engine is also expected to remain same as the Harrier. The H7X would get three-row of seats with a capacity of 7 occupants. Tata may also introduce a 6-speed automatic transmission with the H7X, which will also make way to the Harrier.

Tata 45X

Expected launch: Festive season 2019

Tata has been testing the 45X in the Indian market and it will be launched later this year. This will be the first-ever premium hatchback from the brand and is highly anticipated in the market. It will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20 in the Indian market. Tata keeps their production vehicles quite close to the concept versions and the 45X is expected to be the same. It will get powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine option same as the Nexon.

Toyota-badged Baleno

Expected launch: Festive season 2019

Toyota and Maruti Suzuki have joined hands in India to share the models and soon Maruti will start supplying Baleno hatchback to Toyota. Maruti will supply a total of 25,000 units of the Baleno to Toyota. The Toyota branded Baleno would look quite different from the Maruti-Suzuki’s iteration. It would be interesting to see how the automotive giants launch and use each other’s product in the Indian market. The Baleno would be the first car to be launch after the partnership.
