Maruti Suzuki is working on a premium version of WagonR that might be called XL5. The vehicle was recently spied on a test on our Indian roads. Being a more posh version of the WagonR, it will be sold through the Nexa dealerships of the Maruti Suzuki, making it the cheapest Nexa vehicle that you can buy. This is not the first time that the XL5 has been spotted on our roads. The vehicle has been spied numerous times during 2020. However, the new spy shots do reveal some new things about the XL5.
We can see that the XL5 use the same conventional same door handles that we have seen on the WagonR. Because it is based on the WagonR, the XL5 also has a tall boy design. At the front, we get split headlamps. So, the main headlamp is placed below while the turn indicator is placed above. We are also expecting it to get a projector setup instead of regular halogen units. There is a wide air dam that is flanked by a set of fog lamps.
It gets the same set of black alloy wheels that we have seen on the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. At the rear, there are vertical LED tail lamps, high mounted stop lamp and rear wiper. From the rear, the XL5 does look a lot like the WagonR. It is expected to get the Nexa Blue colour also which is exclusive to Nexa products.

Speaking of the interior, there is not much information available about it, but we expect that the Maruti Suzuki will be using better quality plastics and materials for the XL5 as compared to the WagonR. It will get the latest generation of Maruti Suzuki’s SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system which will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
There will be features like automatic climate control, multi-function steering wheel, power windows for all four windows, keyless entry, push-button to start/stop, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, Dual airbags and much more. Moreover, it will be offered with more features than the WagonR to justify its higher price tag. Powering the XL5 will be the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that we have also seen on other Maruti Suzuki vehicles. The engine produces 83 PS of max power and 113Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.
The 1.0-litre engine is not expected to be offered with the XL5 as it is a bit underpowered for a car that is sold through a premium offering like Nexa. The 1.0-litre petrol engine produces 68 PS of max power and 90 Nm of peak torque. Maruti Suzuki XL5 could be one of the first launches from the manufacturer in 2021 as it is being spied for quite some time and was expected to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, but that did not happen. It is expected to charge a premium over the WagonR of around Rs. 70,000, the WagonR currently starts from Rs. 4.45 Lakhs ex-showroom.
