We expect that the D22 will be based on the Futuro-E Concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. So, it will have a coupe-like design and fluid body lines. The details of the new upcoming crossover are sparse but it will be the new flagship of Maruti Suzuki. It will be replacing the S-Cross which is reaching the end of its product lifecycle. The upcoming D22 will go against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and Volkswagen Taigun.

It is not known which engine will both the manufacturers use. However, the new crossover will not be offered with a diesel engine. So, there will be a petrol engine and there could be an option of hybrid powertrain also. There are also rumours that the new crossover might also come with an all-wheel-drive powertrain.

Maruti Suzuki is also working on an all-new generation of Vitara Brezza. It has been codenamed YXA. It is expected to be based on the Heartect platform. It will retain its boxy design language and flat bonnet to have that SUV appeal. There would also be changes to the interior of the new generation Vitara Brezza. Mechanically, there will be no changes. So, it will continue to come with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 103 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Baleno based compact SUV

Maruti Suzuki is also working on a new more affordable compact SUV that will be based on the Baleno. It will be positioned below the Vitara Brezza. The manufacturer is adding another compact SUV to their line-up because the prices of the Vitara Brezza have increased significantly since it was first launched Due to this, many rivals are able to undercut the prices of the Vitara Brezza.
