Meet the 80 year-old man who’s covered 10 lakh kms on his Honda Goldwing superbike

Earlier, we have done stories of Toyota vehicles that have done lakhs of kilometers. This time we have a different story. Here, is an 80-year-old man who has covered more than 10 lakh kilometers that too on his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle.

The video is uploaded on YouTube by Kenton Kloos. In the video, we can see the owner of the motorcycle as well as the motorcycle itself. The video starts by showing us the odometer of the motorcycle. It displays 658,258 miles which translate to 10,59,363 kilometers. The owner of this Gold Wing is Phil Steiner. He is now 80 years old.

This is the Gold Wing with the highest mileage and it is still running its original engine. The host says that there have been many people who have claimed to cover a million miles on their motorcycles but that was on their third or fourth engine. Phil, on the other hand, is still on his original engine that came from the factory. This shows how much care Phil takes of his motorcycle.

Phil was getting his clutch replaced in a workshop that is located in Ohio when the video was shot. He tells that that he bought the Gold Wing on December 17th of 2014. So, the motorcycle is 7 years old.

In his first year only, Phil travelled 100,000 miles which translates to 1.60 lakh kilometres. In the following second, the third, fourth and fifth years he travelled 100,000 miles each. So, at the end of 5 years, he completed 500,000 miles or 8.04 lakh kilometers. In his sixth year, he travelled 85,000 miles which are 1.36 lakh kilometers.

Phil says that he wants to complete 700,000 miles on this Gold Wing because his bike is still under warranty and then he would buy a new GoldWing that now comes with a 6-speed gearbox. The 2014 Gold Wing came with a 5-speed gearbox. He said that he likes changing gears himself and he would stay away from the automatic transmission because some issues have been reported with it. So, he would opt for the new 6-speed one.

The clutch is not covered by Honda’s warranty so he brought the motorcycle to the shop. His fuel pump is also leaking and that also needs to be changed. This is his second water pump. He changes the anti-freeze every year and also gets his valves checked every year. He also changes his spark plugs and air filter after every 100,000 miles.

He still loves this motorcycle and it is still running on its original engine that came from the factory. Phil says that he likes to have two motorcycles in his garage so that he has one to ride when the other one is in the garage.
