Menza Lucat electric motorcycle launched in India

2018 Auto Expo has seen a slew of electric vehicle launches and unveilings. Menza, an Ahmedabad-based company has launched their first electric bike called as Lucat. It is India’s first urban electric sports motorcycle and is priced at Rs. 2.79 lakhs, ex-showroom.

The Lucat is a customised motorcycle and looks unconventional. Riders can change specifications like body-type, seat height, footrest position as per needs. It gets a carbon fibre body, flat clip-on handlebar, cantilevered tailpiece, spoked rims, twin-tube swing arm that is painted in contrasting red colour and circular LED headlamps.

The Lucat gets up to 84%  locally sourced parts that make it quite affordable and the company has tested it for more than 10,000 km to make sure that the customers do not face any problems. It gets inverted WP telescopic front suspension and a custom rear monoshock. The bike weighs around 153 kg.

The battery pack in the bike is 72V Lithium-ion pack with smart BMS system. It can charge completely in 4 hours and also gets fast charging capability that can do the job in 90 minutes. it also gets regenerative braking system that charges the batteries as soon as the bike slows down. The battery supplies power to the brushless DC motor that produces a maximum of 18 kW and 60 Nm. The battery lasts for up to 100 km in the city traffic and 150 km on the highway. There is no transmission in it, the power directly feeds the rear wheel of the bike.

Menza claims that the Lucat can go up to 121 km/h, which is quite impressive for an electric motorcycle. To bring it to a halt, Menza has equipped the bike with 300mm disc brake at the front and 230 mm disc brake at the rear. It gets 17-inch spoked wheels that look quite good.

For the convenience of the customers, Menza has set-up charging stations along the Yamuna Expressway that is free for the customers to use. More charging stations are planned across the cities.
