The C-Class has gotten larger over the years, and the latest iteration is almost as large as an E-Class from a couple of generations before. That makes the current Mercedes Benz C-Class more of a saloon that offers luxury rather than something that’s sporty and nimble. What does someone who want something sporty in Mercedes Benz’s line up opt for? Well, that answer is here today, in the form of the C-Class C43 AMG high performance sports coupe. And Mercedes Benz India has just launched this car today. Prices start from Rs. 75 lakhs, ex-showroom India.
So, what makes the C43 AMG different from the regular C-Class?
For starters, its form factor. The car is now a two door coupe, and just with this single change, it elevates the sporty quotient to the next level. This is first ever two door coupe in the AMG 43 line.
Delving deeper, the car gets a major heart transplant, and under the hood, there’s a twin turbo 3 liter V6 petrol engine that puts out 390 Bhp of peak power and 520 Nm of peak torque. All this power and torque is enough to propel the C43 AMG from 0-100 Kph in just 4.7 seconds. Top speed? An electronically limited 250 Kmph. Of course, nobody should be attempting to hit this speed on regular roads.
The torque transmission is handled by a AMG SPEEDSHIFT 9-speed transmission with shortened shift times. And lest we forget, there’s an all wheel drive system that Mercedes Benz calls 4MATIC. This all wheel drive system distributes torque in the following way: 31% to the front axle and 69% to the rear axle. What this results in is a thrilling drive and also good amounts of grip at all times.
Other trick bits in this AMG badged car include a 2 stage speed sensitive steering, multiple driving modes and electronically adjustable suspension. On the inside, the car gets plenty of AMG badged stuff, which do a great job in telling everyone that this is truly a special C-Class, and a lot different from the regular model.
Key new features on the insides of the car include sports seats with AMG-specific upholstery, an all-new touchscreen infotainment display, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting with hold-your-breath 64 colours and Multibeam LED headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus.
The car is meant for those who want an everyday car that they can go berserk with on an empty stretch of road, in vacant parking lots, and of course, the odd track day. With the C-Class C43 AMG coupe, Mercedes Benz aims to reach everyone who want a perfect Jekkyl-and-Hyde car, one that’s apt both business meetings and weekend corner carving.
