Mercedes Benz India has launched yet another high performance car in India, in the form of the GLA 45 AMG crossover. With this launch, the German luxury and sports car marque redefines affordability in the high performance car space, what with the GLA 45 AMG joining its MFA platform sibling, the CLA 45 AMG, which was launched a few months ago at a price of 68.5 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi. The Mercedes Benz GLA 45 AMG is priced at 69.6 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Mumbai, and is imported from Germany as a completely built unit (CBU). The high performance crossover will be sold from all Mercedes Benz dealerships in India.
Apart from sharing its MFA platform with the CLA 45 AMG sedan, the GLA 45 AMG crossover shares its engine. gearbox and all wheel drive system with the former. The crossover uses a 2 liter-4 cylinder turbo petrol engine that outputs 355 Bhp of peak power and 450 Nm of peak torque. Currently, this turbo petrol engine holds the distinction of being the most powerful, production two liter unit. A 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox and an all wheel drive system come standard on the GLA 45 AMG. Mercedes Benz claims a 0-1oo Kph timing of 4.8 seconds and an electronically limited 250 Kph top speed for the GLA 45 AMG.
In Indian conditions, the GLA 45 AMG promises to be the more usable of the CLA-GLA AMG duo, due to the former’s 168 mm ground clearance that should be enough to clear most speed breakers and road imperfections without going cruuuunch. The ride quality on the GLA 45 AMG has been intentionally kept plusher when compared to the stiffly sprung CLA 45 AMG. This plushness will come in handy on Indian roads, most of which are less than perfect. The GLA 45 AMG gains sport suspension tuned by AMG. The 8th AMG car to be sold by Mercedes Benz in India, the GLA 45 AMG is loaded to the gills with safety equipment, creature comforts and a cabin in typical AMG trim.
