Mercedes Benz has just launched the performance-focused edition of its M-Class SUV, the ML63 AMG, in India. The high performance SUV has been launched at a price of Rs 1.49 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The launch happened alongside the inauguration of its first AMG center in the country. Mercedes Benz has been focusing on its high-performance AMG range of vehicles this year in India and the ML63 AMG will join its elder sibling, the GL63 AMG, which was introduced recently. Mercedes Benz sells three AMG branded SUVs in India, the G55, the GL63 and the ML63 models.

The ML63 AMG  comes across as an SUV that will deliver high performance driving dynamics that you’d want on a track day while also performing quite well off the road. The ML63 AMG gets a  5.5 liter V8 twin-turbo petrol motor that is similar to what the GL63 features.

This motor produces a maximum power output of 557 Bhp while peak torque is rated at 700 Nm. With all this power and torque, the SUV manages the 0-100 Kph sprint in just 4.8 seconds prior to touching an electronically constrained pace of 250 kmph.

If you choose to opt for the optional AMG performance package on your ML63 SUV, you can do the 0-100 Kph dash in 4.7 seconds and touch a top speed of 280 Kph. The V8 petrol motor doing duty inside the ML63 SUV is mated to a  AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic automatic transmission.

A 4MATIC four wheel drive system sends power to all four wheels, in a 40:60 split between the front and rear wheels under normal driving conditions. Off the road and on the track, this split automatically assumes different ratios depending on the available traction. The insides of the ML63 AMG get an all black finish with a bunch of AMG badges.

The Porsche Macan Turbo, which is expected to be launched later this year in India, will be the Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG’s main competitor. The SUV is imported into the country through the CBU (completely built unit) route and that is the primary reason for its high price tag.
