Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-new S-Class in the Indian market. The new model is currently available in a single, fully-loaded Launch Edition and the price starts at Rs 2.17 lakh. Mercedes-Benz imports the all-new S-Class as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), which is why it attracts a high amount of taxes.
Internally known as the W223, Mercedes-Benz announced that 150 units of the model have been booked in India. The car launched in the international markets last year. It is available with a petrol and a diesel engine option and the Launch Edition gets the AMG Line trim too.
The all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class looks much different from the older model. The new model gets the Digital Light LED lamps and a new chrome grille with three horizontal slats. It also gets a new front bumper with larger air intakes, pop-out flush-type door handles, wrap-around LED tail lamps, multispoke alloy wheels. Since it is Launch Edition, Mercedes-Benz India is offering the AMG Line alloy wheels that do look sporty on the car. Customers will be able to choose from five different colour options including Designo Diamond White, Onyx Black, Antracite Blue, Rubelite Red and Emerland Green.
A long list of features
As always, the all-new S-Class also gets a long list of features. It includes a brand-new 12.8-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system which extends as a 12.3-inch digital instrument display too. The new OLED touchscreen gets the latest MBUX system and supports a lot of new features including facial recognition, voice recognition and even fingerprint recognition.
The system can store 320 GB of data and gets 16 GB of RAM. The cabin also gets a 64-colour active ambient lighting system, a premium Burmester 4D surround sound system and massaging seats too.
The rear passengers get bench seats but apart from the middle seat, there is an electric adjustment. Rear passengers also get leg-rest and massage function as well. Mercedes-Benz also offers a chauffeur package that adds co-drover seat adjustment from the rear, extra infotainment screens for the rear passengers and a new central tablet controller for controlling various features in the car. The rear passengers also get front airbags, which is a unique feature.
The cabin is available in two colour options. There is a Macchiato Beige colour and Sienna Brown themed Nappa leather upholstery. The cabin colour is dependent on the exterior colour of the car.
Two engine options
The all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets petrol and diesel engine options. There S400d gets the 2.9-litre diesel engine. It is a six-cylinder, in-line engine that generates a maximum power of 330 PS and a peak torque of 700 Nm. The S450 gets a 3.0-litre engine that generates a maximum power of 367 PS and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The engines get the 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive too.
